Synergistic Healing:
Integrated Deep Tissue Massage
The applications of integrated deep tissue massage involve a wide range of benefits to the mass majority for those seeking alternative healing. Integrated deep tissue massage applies synergistic healing, which combines many techniques and/or modalities to have limitless benefits.
Both western and eastern approaches apply in integrated deep tissue massage. Many of the soft tissue techniques were developed within the context of the western rehabilitative therapy model. The eastern bodywork modalities of the integrated deep tissue massage are decidedly holistic, which has the perspective views of all aspects of a person, including mind, body, lifestyle and relationships which is an important factor in the overall state of health.
The techniques incorporated in integrated deep tissue massage therapy are: polarity shiatsu, Swedish cross fiber, connective tissue, stretching, neuromuscular therapy, and deep tissue.
The primary goals of the integrated deep tissue massage are to improve muscle function through:
1.       Adding nutritive and accelerated oxygen levels within muscle fibers
2.       Reducing effects of scar tissue and other factors in the myofascia
3.       Decreasing pain by reducing irritation to nerve endings caused by trapped waste products
The Purpose of Integrated Deep Tissue Massage:
Integrated deep tissue massage helps return the body to balance by eliminating uneven pulls on the skeleton caused by contracted muscles constricted fascia. An integrated deep tissue massage therapist systematically releases the shortened muscles and stretches the constricted fascia to give back freedom of movement to the bones.
Application of Integrated Deep Tissue Massage:
Along the length of the muscle, slow, compressive strokes are applied to recalibrate the nerve receptors (called muscle spindles), that determine muscle length, allowing contracted muscles to relax. This same application from integrated deep tissue massage also activates the Golgi tendon organs, which are nerve receptors within the tendons that also determine the degree of tone in the muscle. If a muscle is stretched too fast, causing the muscle spindles to lengthen quickly, an impulse is sent through the nervous system directing the muscle to contract. This action is known as the stretch reflex. This is a protective mechanism that prevents muscles and tendons from being damaged by overstretching. If, on the other hand, a muscle is stretched slowly, causing the muscle spindles to lengthen slowly, the stretch reflex is overridden and a message is sent from the nervous system to allow the muscle to relax and lengthen further. Integrated deep tissue massage strokes are also performed along the borders of adjacent muscles to release fascial attachment and reduce build-up of scar tissue that may prevent muscles from moving independently. In integrated deep tissue massage removing these problems helps free obstructions that are binding the muscles and not allowing for full movement.
The Benefits of Integrated Deep Tissue Massage:
1. Soft tissues are realigned, balance is restored to the skeleton, and less strain is forced on the nervous system.
2. Better posture and freer movement.
3. Better coordination.
4. Minimizing the incidence of osteoarthritis.
5. Increases overall level of vitality and promotes clearer thinking.
Integrated deep tissue massage makes available more metabolic energy to fuel all the body’s systems for optimal health overall.
